Welcome to the Textile archive!

Here the rich textile heritage of the County of Västernorrland is gathered. Costumes, quilts, cloths, pieces of embroidery, patterns and sketches.

Here you'll find a treasure of patterns for handicrafters, artists and designers to be inspired by.

Collections

The collections of the textiles archive include about 8000 textile objects. Among these, the largest part is less than 1x1 meter in size - samples of fabric, cloths, napkins, pieces of tulle, women's caps for special occasions, parts of costumes and underwear.

Applikation

Only ten percent consists of larger objects such as sheepskin quilts, long-pile rugs, table covers, damask cloths, premium linen. Articles of clothing, and women's clothing in particular, make up the remaining ten percent.

In the collection, there are also some pieces of handicraft and textile tools. The archives part consists of patterns and sketches, weaving instructions, weaving books, inventories, records and photographs.
